Gen Art x Hip Hop Beauty Circa 1973

This week kicks off New York Fashion Week, a time when industry vets, both new and seasoned, come together to celebrate, connect, and share our work.

I had the pleasure of attending the Gen Art x Hip Hop Beauty Circa 1973 Photo Exhibition, co-curated by my friend makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks. Here I am photographed with the legendary Keith Major, one of the architects who has shaped the culture, photographing icons from Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill to Teyana Taylor.

“His work captures intimacy, strength, and truth, offering an unfiltered visual archive of Black creativity across decades. These are not just images. They are living records, historical receipts, and moments preserved in real time. This is reclamation, recognition, and redemption. Honoring the artists behind the camera who helped shape the larger beauty and cultural zeitgeist, often unseen, always essential. New York, this is legacy work. And we are proud to hold space for it.”

One of my most memorable shoots was with Keith when he shot my headshot, the one I still use to this day.
